1.Introduction
The Learning Ledge ("we", "us", "our", or "the Platform") provides an online learning, practice, and progress-tracking experience for students preparing for internal assessments, WAEC, NECO, JAMB, and related examinations, along with supporting tools for teachers and administrators.
This Privacy Policy describes the personal data we collect through our website and web application (together, the "Service"), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices available to you. By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
2.Information we collect
Account information
When you register, we collect your full name, email address, password (stored in encrypted/hashed form), account type (student, teacher, or administrator), and, where applicable, school or class details.
Profile information
You may choose to add a profile picture, date of birth, subject or track preferences, and other details you provide to personalize your experience.
Learning and usage data
- Practice test and CBT (computer-based test) attempts, scores, and question-level responses
- Notes you create or save within the Classroom and Notes tools
- Progress and performance analytics, including time spent per subject and completion rates
- Pages visited, features used, and general navigation activity within the dashboard
Technical and device information
We automatically collect limited technical data such as browser type, device type, operating system, approximate location (derived from IP address), and log data (timestamps, error reports) to help us maintain and secure the Service.
3.How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and authenticate sign-ins
- To operate core features such as the CBT practice engine, Notes, and Progress Tracker
- To generate performance analytics and progress reports visible to you (and, for students under a school account, to authorized teachers or administrators)
- To communicate service-related updates, security alerts, and, where you have opted in, product news
- To detect, investigate, and prevent misuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms of Use
- To improve the Service through aggregated, de-identified usage insights
We do not sell personal information to third parties, and we do not use student learning data to build advertising profiles.
4.Children's privacy and parental consent
Many of our users are secondary school students, some of whom are under the age of 18, and in some cases under 13. Where a student is registered under a school or class account created by a teacher or institution, we treat that institution as responsible for obtaining any necessary consent from parents or guardians before enrolling the student, consistent with the institution's own policies.
Where a student under 18 registers independently, we recommend that a parent or guardian review this policy with them. Parents and guardians who believe their child has provided personal information without appropriate consent may contact us at any time to request that the account and associated data be reviewed, restricted, or deleted.
We do not knowingly collect more information from children than is reasonably necessary to provide the educational features of the Service, and we do not use children's data for behavioral advertising.
5.Cookies and local storage
The Service uses browser storage (cookies and localStorage) to keep you signed in, remember display preferences such as theme and language, and support core functionality of the dashboard. Some of this data — such as demo profile details in earlier versions of the Platform — may be stored directly in your browser rather than on our servers.
We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies. You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings; doing so may sign you out or reset locally saved preferences.
6.How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: infrastructure and analytics providers (such as our hosting, authentication, and database providers) who process data on our behalf under contractual confidentiality obligations
- Your school or institution: where you are enrolled through a school account, relevant teachers and administrators at that institution may view associated progress and performance data
- Legal requirements: where disclosure is required to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or a valid governmental request
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to continued protection under a policy at least as protective as this one
7.Data storage and security
Account and application data is stored using industry-standard cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Passwords are never stored in plain text. Access to production data is limited to authorized personnel who need it to operate and support the Service.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.
8.Data retention
We retain account and learning data for as long as your account remains active, and for a reasonable period afterward to allow for account recovery, fulfil legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time, subject to the exceptions described in Section 9.
9.Your rights and choices
Depending on your location and applicable law — including the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 — you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 12. We may need to verify your identity before processing certain requests, and some data may be retained where required by law or legitimate business need (for example, academic records requested by a school account administrator).
10.International data transfers
Our infrastructure providers may process and store data on servers located outside Nigeria. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure such transfers are subject to appropriate safeguards consistent with applicable data protection law.
11.Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. Material changes will be indicated by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and where appropriate, through an in-app or email notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
